Where the Wild Things Grow

Old Time Scotch Collie Association

Old Time Scotch Collie Registry is an open registry meaning that any dog fitting the description may apply, providing as much detail as possible with regards to health, temperament, ability, and of course must be part of the collie family tree, if the requirements are met one can enter as foundation stock, if the requirements are not fully met but only mostly then one can enter as an appendix dog. An appendix dog may only be bred to a fully registered Scotch Collie. All puppies bred by such a pair will be registered as Scotch Collie pups. Unlike the AKC which is a closed gene pool the Scotch Collie registry is trying to build and promote the health of dogs by allowing occasional outcrosses to keep the inbreeding coefficient down, this leads to lower rates of health incidences. As a farmer would say, Hybrid vigor is the key to a healthy happy gene pool. One only needs to look at the Hapsburg jaw and Charles II of Spain to realize that continually marrying cousins to cousins is probably a bad idea. In short it is our distinct opinion from a scientific standpoint that maintaining an open mind and an open registry when it comes to breeding dogs will ultimately save the Scotch Collie from the brink and build us a healthy Collie community.
